waterlogged

wow, what a wild 48 hours! two days ago we kidnapped the confirmands and took them to breakfast for their lasy big event before their confirmation. after the breakfast i took austin home, and we immediately went across the street to the bramer home and he was baptized in the hot tub-- not the pool. check out the video:

saturday afternoon we had james' birthday party. it was a crazy event. nearly 30 kids were there, we had a bounce house, it was hot outside, oy. but he had fun and we survived. of course yesterday was confirmation sunday. two others were baptized, bringing the total baptisms to four of the fourteen confirmands (jessica was baptized by a former pastor a week ago friday). the service was great, but it felt rushed, because i had to leave immediately afterward to get to the airport. and then i thought i would miss the flight-- i realized at the last minute i was at the wrong gate! of course everything was delayed anyway. american changed planes at the last minute because our original aircraft doesn't fly well in rain?? isn't that important??

it was a good thing, as lots of rain met us here coming in! i always am comforted when flying in to see the city getting bigger and bigger-- knowing my time in the air is coming to an end! but last night with all the rain we could not see anything but clouds until we were right over the city. through the rain on the window we could see the jefferson memorial, the washington monument, and the capitol building. arriving at the runway we flew over what i guess is the potomac, and we were so low for a moment all i could see was water-- not a pleasant sight. but thankfully we made it in ok. it is cold and rainy here in d.c. did i bring an umbrella? no. raincoat? no. so i get off the metro and have to search for the hotel in the dark and rain. one time crossing the street i walked through ankle-deep water.

more of the same today. yuck.

so after the baptisms and rain i am done with water. i will not shower until at least friday. i will not drink anything until wednesday. still, if you are into signs so far everything points to a good trip these next two weeks: the flight number was the same as my grandparents' phone: 1374. the street of the hotel is lanier place, the name of the farm in frisco that is both blessing and curse to the church. and in my room is a poster celebrating the opening of yankee stadium-- christy and i will attend a game there next friday. this is, of course, the last season of the stadium.

off to breakfast now. stay dry!
