Oscar 2014 Picks (or Watch All Seven Deadly Sins In Action Watch Party)

So, every sermon has material that ends up "on the cutting room floor," to use a movie phrase. This is stuff that, intentionally or not, is left out of the sermon by the preacher. I, for one, call this the editorial work of the Holy Spirit. Tonight we’ll have the occasion to see all Seven Deadly Sins, and probably a few extras, on display: it’s Oscar night. Look for evidence of Pride, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, Envy, Lust, and Wrath. Winners—wait, they don’t use the word “winner” anymore, do they? Now they say, “The Oscar goes to…” so that no one feels like a loser. Fair enough. Those receiving recognition for their achievement in film will graciously acknowledge their fellow honorees. Those whose recognition is not honored with an Oscar will graciously celebrate the other’s achievement. But what about all the behind the s…
