Reset Series

From my family to yours, thank you for the warm welcome on Sunday during worship and the lovely reception afterward. Christy, James, Miles and Linus all transferred their membership to Spring Valley. We’re ready to move forward in ministry here! Sometimes it can be helpful to pause, step back, and reset things. More often than not, the first, most effective thing to do when our electronics do not respond to us is- hit the reset or refresh button. With AI invading our lives at every opportunity, now we are learning spiritual practices from the machines! Cue the Terminator sound track!

New Sermon Series begins Sunday!

God’s mercies are new every morning! But sometimes it is easy for us to get stuck in the same old routine. Let’s hit the “reset button,” so we can claim the fresh start God makes available to us. As we rediscover our true identity in the love of God, we will discover new purpose and, guided by the compass of God’s values, head off in an exciting God-given direction!

Week 1: Soul Reset | Luke 3:21-23

Resetting your soul begins with remembering who you are. In baptism, God calls us beloved.

Week 2: Reset Purpose | Mark 1:32-39

Centered living comes from understanding God’s purpose in this season.

Week 3: Reset Values | Galatians 5:24-6:10

What does it mean to live by God’s Spirit and not our own, to live according to God’s values and not those of the world?

Week 4: Reset Direction | Acts 9:1-15

Whether we’ve been in the church for a long time or are exploring the faith, Jesus sometimes calls us to move in a new direction, even when we think we are already heading in the right direction.

There are daily scripture readings to accompany the series. They build on the theme from Sunday. Here are the readings for the week of July 9:

Week 1: Soul Reset

Sunday – Luke 3:21-23

Monday – Matthew 3:13-17

Tuesday – Mark 1:9-11

Wednesday – John 1:29-34

Thursday – Revelation 21:5

Friday – 2 Corinthians 5:17

Saturday – Jeremiah 29:11

This series will help us to retain, maybe even recover, our calling and our purpose as followers of Christ. It will lead us directly in to our next series, which will begin August 13, “Bless this Neighborhood.” Energized by reconnecting with Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we will go out into our immediate neighborhood to embody the love of God.
