Wonder Women of the Bible

A new sermon series starts Sunday!

"Wonder Women of the Bible" will examine some of the most well known stories of the Bible, and some of the least. Some of the characters are giants of the scriptures; some names were not remembered at all. As we celebrate the centennial of women's right to vote, as well as the very real possibility that the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) will finally be ratified, let's explore some of the voices that helped define what it means to be a person of faith. Our five-week will take us to palaces, basements, rivers, grain fields, and the streets of the city. We will find isolated women, women struggling for their personhood, and courageous women who did what was right, despite the cost. Each Sunday we will pray a litany that honors biblical women before we read the text of the day.

Jan 19: Women of the Exodus: Midwives and Miriam, defying an empire
Jan 26: Vashti and Esther, redefining established roles
Feb 2: Naomi and Ruth, surviving through faith
Feb 9: Anonymous women restored
Feb 16: Anonymous women healed

Recently I sent random texts to female clergy colleagues expressing to them my thanks for their ministry. It felt good to share a positive word with my sisters in the faith. Throughout the series, think of faithful women who have shaped and guided your journey. Express thanks to God for their continued influence on you.
